Against the Current Hawaii Wedding

Who are we?

We grew up in the same small town in South Carolina but only met in 2014. Arthur had been living in Hawaii for a couple years when he went home to visit family. We met in a local bar and were inseparable the rest of his trip. When I dropped him off at the airport I thought that was the last time I would see him. Surprisingly, a plane ticket popped up in my inbox a few weeks later. After a 3 week trip to Hawaii he convinced me to move in with him by the end of the summer. We loved so much about Hawai'i but it was time for us to explore outside of that beautiful island chain. So, we bought a 60 year old sailboat on a whim and became full time boat people at the beginning of the year. We plan to take the remainder of 2019 off to travel and catch up with friends and family. We are calling this year our Victory Lap. Why a Victory Lap? Well, we got married but decided to skip the big wedding and put that money towards traveling instead. Arthur - Against the Current Blog

Arthur

Loves the simple but finer things in life: food from the garden, a good IPA, his 9’ 6’’ boat of a surfboard, and cooking dinner while listening to bluegrass. He enjoys browsing Craigslist for things he will never buy. He dreams of living on a farm and growing all of his own food, but has also always wanted to take off on a sailboat. When the sailboat that has been in his family for over 30 years became available he saw his opportunity to live out that dream but also keep Hilary traveling (her dream). He's usually very humble, except when it comes to what he thinks he knows about sailing. He is the grossly under qualified captain of our 60 year old sailboat.

Hilary - Against the Current Blog

Hilary

The main voice of this blog, she loves exploring new places, eating anything put in front of her, and convincing Arthur to do things that make him slightly uncomfortable. Ever since she studied abroad in Australia, she has been determined to travel the world. Frugal when it comes to material things, yet unafraid to throw down on good food and new adventures. She weighs most purchases based on how many plane tickets she could buy with that money, which can make shopping with her exhausting. She had dreams of living in a camper van and hopping from one crag to the next, but somehow Arthur convinced her living on a sailboat would be just a thrilling.
